The Blessing of Mary

Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, is without controversy the most blessed woman of all time. Luke's gospel gives us the most complete description of her blessedness by using three distinct Greek words. The first word used to express Mary's blessedness is spoken by the angel Gabriel:
"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!"" (Luke 1:26-28). Blessed here is the word εuλογηενη pronounced (ū-log-ā-nā); meaning "uniquely favored from among all women", or "acted upon favorably by God". The antonym (opposite) of this word is "anathema", meaning something that is cursed.

Next, Luke relates a dialog between Mary and her cousin Elizabeth. By this time Mary has conceived, by the Holy Spirit.
"Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord."(Luke 1:39-45)

This word for blessed is μακαρια (ma-kar-ē-ă); "to be pronounced or declared as blessed", "the state of being marked by the fullness of God", "fully satisfied by God". Again, the antonym is "to curse".

The third word for blessed is contained in Mary's reply to Elizabeth, known as "Mary's Magnificat".

"And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. . .""  Мακαριουσί, (ma-kar-ē-ou-see), indicates that the goodwill credited to Mary would commence at the time of her visit with Elizabeth, and continue throughout all subsequent generations. It is obviously God's will for us to consider Mary's blessing.

Is Mary to be worshiped with the Father and the Son? Listen to Jesus' words from John's gospel. "For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does
not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him." (John 5:21-23) The Greek word used for honor is τίμωσί (ti-mō-see); "reverence", "to esteem precious in value". Revelation Chapter 5 captures the host of heaven praising God, Father and Son; ""Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!" And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: "Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!"" The Apostle John declares in 1st John 1:3b "and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ."
(Even though the Holy Spirit is God, we are not instructed to pray to Him in the Bible.)

The table (below) affirms essential truths the Apostles and prophets held concerning

My Jesus can be your Jesus too! Please tell Father God that you have decided to place your faith in Jesus, The Son of God. Tell Him that you have been a sinner and now you are sorry for your sins. Confess that you need the sacrifice for sin that Jesus made for you on the cross, and believe that your sins have been forgiven because of the blood and the sacrificial death of Jesus! Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you can live a new life that pleases and glorifies Him. If you prayed this prayer to God, He heard you and you are now His own dear child. Jesus has gone into Heaven to make a place for you and Jesus has covered you with His own perfect righteousness! You have now made total peace with God according to His new Covenant. Read the Bible and keep praying to Jesus, and The Father, for everything great and small, and be thankful. Also, find a place to worship God with other believers, remembering that they are sinners saved by grace just like you. ***All Bible quotations are from the New King James Version translated from the ancient manuscripts.
